Treat Yourself with Dress-Up Fridays

Back in the day, before the situation, dress-down Fridays were a real treat. It gave the day a bit of a different feel, punctuating the week and setting us all up for a couple of days off. I think we need to switch this around, and here’s why…

Dressing Down is The New Normal

Nowadays, we’re all working from home in various pj’s, joggers and dressing gowns. It’s comfortable, sure, but it’s just so mundane. We’re actually wearing the same clothes. Every. Single. Day.

Dressing down has become the new normal. More importantly, though, there’s no real break. The weeks just blend into each other. Even Xmas and New Year felt more-or-less the same. We can’t even go out to a restaurant or bar. We’re always in the same baggy clothes.

It Doesn’t Have to be Fancy

This is where dress-up Fridays come in! I’m not talking about ball gowns or superman outfits. It’s not even about wearing a full-blown suit or high heels etc.

Weirdly, my dress-up Friday outfits are the same as my dress-down Friday outfits used to be. Such is the difference in my day-to-day attire! It’s all relative, but it seems to work…

Only 2 Fridays So Far… But it’s Going Well!

I’m only 2 Fridays in. I made this change after a depressing Xmas and New Year… and it’s made a real difference:

  • I remembered it’s nice to make an effort, from time-to-time
  • I actually feel like I’m holding a better posture, not just slouched at my desk
  • I’ve broken the monotony, mixed things up a bit
  • Friday feels like Friday again!

We All Need a Bit of Structure

I’ve been reading about fake commutes helping to add structure to a day. I can see how that works, but honestly, on these cold mornings, neither my chihuahua nor I want to leave our beds, let alone our flat.

This little change though has made a big difference to me. Will it last? I don’t know. Maybe it becomes something I do from time-to-time, but it’s helped me start the year with a different mindset!

Give it a try and let me know what you think.
